What historical events are covered?
I try to cover events and individuals that interest me personally. Often these events are overlooked and underreported. Some are stories of heroism; others describe someone overcoming great difficulties; others are just quirky and interesting. My goal is to entertain, inspire, and instill a love of history; not to educate like a history book. Some examples of stories that will be covered include:
- The schoolteacher who saved 13 children during a blizzard
- The world’s first road trip
- A daring escape from slavery
- Whatever happened to the Bounty mutineers?
Are the artifacts authentic?
The artifacts contain text, drawings, and/or photos from the time period. In some cases, they may be recreated to make them easier to read or to fit into the envelope. In some cases, they may be edited for clarity or to make them appropriate for children. Some artifacts will refer to the exact people or incidents in the story; others will be items of interest from the time period.
Can I start anytime?
Yes, the stories don't follow any order. Each one stands alone

Such a lovely and creative combination of history and personal testimony. It feels like a 19th-century multimedia project more than 100 years before anyone thought to use the term 'multimedia'

This is a unique and immersive way to experience the challenges of living in the 1800’s. The letters are well written and researched with maps, music, and a primer that make the words come to life. I can’t wait for the next letter to arrive so that I can continue to travel back in time, or is it forward?

The first Letter from a Time Traveler was a fun and creative peak into a piece of Nebraska history. I enjoyed reading from the perspective of a time traveler being dropped right into the action of the story. I also enjoyed the other pieces of history including the musical score about the event, reading exercises from an old schoolbook, picture and historical facts about the main character, and an original letter written by Minnie Freeman on textured parchment paper

I liked learning about an actual event in history that has been brought to life, not only by Tam going back in time, but from a person from that time.

The letter from Tam was so engaging, and really set the scene; it is exceptionally well written and I could picture the action as I was reading. I thought the letter from Minnie was so enlightening as to her character. The music sheet/song was definitely an interesting artifact, and gave proof of what a heroic event this was! (I think I sang it correctly, it was fun to try.) Tracking Tam's progress as she time travels would definitely provide for some interesting adventures. I also like the Hero trading card with the tidbits of information - Minnie was quite a woman!
